Why after-hours calls matter
Things break at night and on weekends. A homeowner with no cooling, a leak, or half the house dark doesn’t wait for Monday. They call down the list until someone answers. If that isn’t you, the job usually goes to whoever picks up.
The formula
Missed calls per month × average job value = what’s on the table each month.
That’s the upper bound, not a promise. Not every missed call would have booked. If you want a conservative number, use a lower job value or count only the calls you’re sure were real jobs.
How to get your numbers
- 1
Pull your missed calls.
Your phone carrier’s call log or your business line’s app usually shows missed and after-hours calls. Count a normal month.
- 2
Remove the noise.
Take out spam, vendors, and repeat calls from the same number.
- 3
Use a typical job value.
Your average service call or ticket, not your biggest job.
An example, not a promise
Say a shop misses 20 calls a month and a typical service call is $120. That’s 20 × $120 = $2,400 a month on the table, or $28,800 a year, if every one of those calls had become a job. Use the calculator below with your own numbers.
Example math · not a guarantee
What are missed calls costing you?
Example: 20 missed calls × $120 job = $2,400 a month. Move the sliders to match your shop.
Example lost revenue / month
$2,400
This is an illustration, not a case study and not a promise of recovered revenue. Formula: missed calls × job value.
What you can do about it
Three options, from cheapest to most complete: return every missed call fast, use an answering service that takes messages, or use an AI receptionist that answers on your number and books the job. Compare them in our guide AI receptionist vs. answering service.
Or hear it now: call Emma, our AI receptionist, at (470) 570-9021.
Stop sending customers to voicemail.
